Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) is the organisers for the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) International Conference (AIC) 2021. USM was established as the second university in Malaysia in 1969, it was first referred to as Universiti Pulau Pinang. The university operated on temporary premises at the Malayan Teachers' Training College at Gelugor and moved to its present 239-hectare site at Minden in 1971, approximately 10 kilometres away from the city of Georgetown. Furthermore, USM offers courses ranging from Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Building Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities and Education as well as conducts research. Universiti Sains Malaysia has three campuses in total which are a main campus located in Gelugor, Penang, a health campus in Kelantan and an engineering campus in Nibong Tebal, Penang.

Universiti Sains Malaysia is different from any other universities in Malaysia because USM is the first university in Malaysia to be selected by the Malaysian Government to participate in the Accelerated Programme for Excellence (APEX), a fast-track programme that helps tertiary institutions achieve world-class status. Apart from that, USM used the School system rather than the traditional Faculty system used by other universities. This is to ensure that every student is multi-disciplined from their exposure to other areas of fields by other Schools. This system will also encourage students to participate and be active in extracurricular activities available. Universiti Sains Malaysia also offers various services such as sport and recreational amenities like soccer fields, 8-lane synthetic running track, an Astroturf hockey stadium and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
